Shalom Lappin recruited to Gothenburg; funded by the Swedish Research Council for 10 years

NEWS

The University of Gothenburg has been awarded 109 million SEK over 10 years from the Swedish Research Council to recruit Shalom Lappin to create a new Centre for Linguistic Theory and Studies of Probability (CLASP).

Lappin will join the University of Gothenburg to lead CLASP, which brings together linguists and computational linguists as well as philosophers, logicians and computer scientists. He will also develop collaboration with other related research centres. Lappin’s research spans theoretical linguistics, theoretical philosophy, computational linguistics and semantics, and he has a well-documented ability to attract scholars from other research institutions and build creative research environments. He has in recent years developed ground-breaking research on central issues in human language, language learning and cognition and this work will be of central importance for CLASP.

The proposal for the new centre cites CLT as an important part of the research environment at GU which plays a large role in the motivation for placing CLASP here.
